| Obverse description | Draped armored bust of Ferdinand III facing right, wearing a prominent ruff collar and richly decorated plate armor, occupying the central field within a wide wreath of laurel and oak branches. The numeral '4' appears in a small cartouche at the base of the wreath, denoting the denomination, with the mintmaster's initials 'D S' below. The circumferential legend, partially interrupted by the wreath, reads FERDINANDVS III D G HVNG BOHEMIÆ REX, identifying the ruler as King of Hungary and Bohemia by the grace of God. The portrait is rendered in a vigorous late-Renaissance style characteristic of the Prague mint in the early seventeenth century. |
