Obverse description Central field occupied by a quartered heraldic shield surmounted by a grand master's crown. The first and fourth quarters display the eight-pointed cross of the Order of Malta, while the second and third quarters bear the Cotoner family arms of two flowering rose branches on a plain field. The denomination numeral '4' appears to the right of the shield, with the letter 'T' (for Tari) to the left. A Latin legend encircles the shield within a beaded border, giving the grand master's name and titles with the date 1663.
