Reverse description Within a raised inner circle, the severed head of Saint John the Baptist shown in three-quarter view, resting upon a paten with flowing hair rendered in fine linear detail, characteristic of late 16th-century Maltese hammered coinage. The composition is bold and devotional in character, consistent with the iconographic tradition of the Order of St. John. The peripheral Latin legend is separated by a crosslet and ornamental stops, encircling the central motif.
