Obverse description Central field features a condor displayed with wings spread, rendered in low relief typical of early Bolivian republican coinage. A arc of nine five-pointed stars flanks the condor above, referencing the nine departments of Bolivia. The circular legend REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA runs along the upper periphery, while the mint mark OR (Oruro), denomination 4S, date 1849, and assayer initials J·M· are inscribed along the lower periphery.
