Sam Mirza was briefly installed as a puppet shah in Tabriz by Azad Khan Afghan following the chaos that erupted after Nader Shah's assassination in June 1747. His reign was a local political fiction — he held no real authority beyond the city, and Azad Khan's ambitions to control northwestern Iran collapsed within a few years. Coins struck under Sam Mirza in Tabriz are among the more obscure products of that fractured interregnum, issued by a mint that changed nominal masters repeatedly across the 1740s and 1750s.
