Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of St. John the Evangelist, nimbed and draped, holding the Agnus Dei (lamb) in his right arm and a patriarchal cross in his left hand, set within a beaded inner circle. The municipal shield of Lübeck — displaying a double-barred cross — is displayed in the lower field beneath the saint, flanking the date in the margin. The circular Latin legend runs along the outer border, separated from the inner design by a beaded ring.
