Obverse description Central design features the Hamburg city arms: a three-towered castle gate with an open portcullis, rendered in the medieval heraldic style characteristic of early 17th-century German municipal coinage. The castle is depicted with flanking round towers surmounted by battlements, and a central taller tower bearing a small lion or decorative finial. The date appears at the top of the field, partially integrated into the surrounding beaded inner border. The circular legend MONETA NOVA HAMBVRGENSIS runs along the outer rim, separated from the central device by a continuous beaded border.
