Carl XV died in September 1872, making 1871 the final full year of his reign. The 4 Riksdaler Riksmynt denomination was itself nearly obsolete by this point — Sweden had already committed to the Scandinavian Monetary Union framework that would replace the entire Riksdaler system with the Krona in 1873, rendering this issue a dead currency before most examples had time to circulate.
