Additional information

The 4 Reichspfennig is one of the more peculiar denominations in modern German coinage — an awkward value born from the 1923 currency reform's attempt to rationalize everyday transactions. By 1932, with unemployment above 30% and the Republic in terminal political crisis, these coins were among the last issues struck under a functioning Weimar government. Production ceased the following year, making the series short-lived even by Weimar standards.
