Obverse description Central device depicts a row of five volcanoes set within a circular border, with a radiant rising sun emerging from behind the peaks, its rays fanning outward across the upper field. The design is rendered in a bold, primitive style characteristic of early Central American coinage. A circular legend surrounds the central motif, separated from it by a plain inner border. Bullet-point stops punctuate the legend.

The date appears at the base of the design along with the assayer's initials, all enclosed within a circular border. A circular legend encircles the entire composition. The overall layout is characteristic of the provisional coinage issued by the State of Honduras during the mid-nineteenth century.
