| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the quartered royal shield of Ferdinand and Isabella, displaying the castles of Castile and the lions of León in alternating quarters, with the combined arms of Aragon (pales) and Granada (pomegranate) also incorporated. The mint mark 'S' (Seville) appears to the left of the shield. The ornate shield is enclosed within a beaded inner border, above which a decorative Gothic frieze runs along the upper rim. The circumferential legend in Gothic-influenced Latin lettering reads FERNANDVS · ET · ELISABET. |
