Obverse description Central crowned shield of Spain within a beaded inner circle, displaying the quartered arms of Castile and Leon with the Granada escutcheon at base, surmounted by an ornate royal crown. The mint mark 'S' and assayer initial 'M' appear flanking the shield at center. The circular legend reads PHILIPPVS V DEI GRA IIII, referring to Philip V as King by the Grace of God, distributed around the periphery in Latin characters.
