Obverse description Large draped bust of King Philip V facing right, wearing a long flowing wig with elaborate curls rendered in the French Baroque style fashionable at the Bourbon court. The effigy is boldly struck with fine detail in the hair and drapery at the truncation. The circular legend surrounding the bust reads PHILIP V D G HISP ET IND REX, identifying the monarch as King of Spain and the Indies by the grace of God. The date 1709 is placed in the lower field beneath the bust. The coin exhibits a milled or reeded border running along the entire periphery.
