| Obverse description | A large Jerusalem cross (cross of Burgundy type) dominates the field, formed by four equal arms extending to the irregular flan edge. The four quarters of the cross are charged alternately with the castles of Castile and the lions of León, each heraldic charge crudely but distinctly struck in the typical macuqui (cob) fashion. A partial circular legend surrounds the cross, reading PHILIPPVS V D G HISPANIA, though on cob coinage the legend is frequently incomplete or off-flan due to the irregular planchet. |
