| Reverse description | Central design features the Jerusalem cross with flared terminals, quartering the field and enclosed within a quadrilobe or polylobed inner border, characteristic of Habsburg colonial coinage. The four quarters display alternating castles and lions, representing the kingdoms of Castile and León. The surrounding Latin legend, partially struck due to the irregular cob flan, reads ET YNDIARUM REX, identifying Philip II as King of the Indies. The strike, as typical of macuquina cobs, is uneven, with portions of the legend and design weak or missing at the flan edges. |
