| Obverse description | Central field displays the quartered royal arms of Castile and León, featuring alternating castles and lions in the upper quarters, with the lower quarters bearing the Bourbon fleur-de-lis and the Granada pomegranate at the base, the whole surmounted by the elaborate Spanish royal crown. The mintmark 'P' (Potosí) and assayer initials 'JR' appear to the left of the shield, flanked by small rosette ornaments, while the denomination numeral '4' is positioned to the right with a corresponding rosette. The circumferential legend reads CAROLUS·III·D·G·HISPAN·ET·IND·R·, separated by small rosette stops, in bold raised Latin lettering. |
