Obverse description Crowned quartered shield of Castile and León, displaying alternating castles (Castile) and rampant lions (León) within their respective quadrants, struck on an irregularly shaped cob flan characteristic of macuquina coinage. The mint mark 'P' for Potosí is visible to the left of the shield, with the assayer's initial appearing alongside. Partial circumferential legend in Latin is present but largely off-flan due to the nature of cob striking. The overall style reflects the crude but authoritative die work typical of late 17th-century Spanish colonial hammered silver coinage.
