| Obverse description | Armored draped bust of Carlos III facing right, struck under the reign of Carlos IV during the transitional period of 1789–1790. The effigy is rendered in the classical portrait style established for the Spanish colonial coinage. A circular legend surrounds the bust, with the date appearing at the bottom of the field. The inscription reads DEI GRATIA CAROLUS IV, acknowledging the king by divine grace, though the portrait itself depicts his predecessor Carlos III. |
