| Obverse description | Central field bears the crowned royal arms of Spain, rendered in fine detail with quartered castles and lions and surmounted by a large royal crown. The mint mark 'So' and assayer initial 'J' appear to the left and right of the shield respectively, flanked by small rosette ornaments. The denomination numeral '4' is positioned to the right of the shield. The circular Latin legend reads 'CAROLUS III D G HISPAN ET IND REX' around the full periphery, with a toothed or beaded border encircling the entire design. |
