Reverse description Central device features a large crowned Gothic monogram 'M' for Madrid, surmounted by a bold cross pattée. The denomination numeral '4' appears to the upper left of the monogram, and the assayer initial 'R' to the upper right, with the date partially visible at the bottom of the flan. The surrounding Latin legend, partially struck on this irregularly shaped cob flan, incorporates the motto VIRTUTE ET PROTECTIONE along with the regnal date. The overall strike is characteristic of the macuquina (cob) coinage tradition, with the design elements irregularly distributed across the planchet.
