Banco de la Emancipación was a short-lived Guatemalan institution, and this 1822 note places it squarely within the chaotic transitional moment when Central America had just broken from Spain but had not yet resolved what it would become — briefly absorbed into Agustín de Iturbide's Mexican Empire before that collapsed in 1823. Whether notes of this series saw meaningful circulation under those conditions is genuinely uncertain.
Pick S142 is among the earliest catalogued paper issues from the region. Survivors are extremely rare, and most known examples passed through a small number of specialist collections.
