Obverse description The obverse bears the national arms of Ecuador centered in the field: an oval cartouche depicting Mount Chimborazo with a steamer on the river below, surmounted by a condor with spread wings perched atop the shield. The shield is flanked by fasces with Phrygian caps on either side and laurel and palm branches. The circumferential legend reads REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR, with the mint name QUITO inscribed in the lower exergue. A toothed border runs along the entire rim.
