| Obverse description | Central field bears the quartered arms of Ecuador within a shield surmounted by a condor with outstretched wings. The four quarters depict respectively a radiant sun over mountains with a ship, a Manco Capac figure, a reclining bull, and a mountain landscape. The denomination numeral '4' appears to the left of the shield and the assayer initial 'R' to the right, flanked by laurel and palm branches forming a wreath below. The encircling legend reads REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR with QUITO at the base, all within a beaded border. |
