Obverse description Central device depicting the Mexican national arms: an eagle passant sinister, clutching a serpent in its beak, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock emerging from a lake. The eagle is rendered in the republican style with spread wings. An oak and laurel wreath frames the lower portion of the arms. The circular legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA runs along the upper periphery in Latin characters.
