| Obverse description | The Arms of Brandenburg-Ansbach displayed as a crowned eagle with a quartered escutcheon on its breast, rendered in baroque style with elaborate foliate ornamentation flanking the shield. A marqual crown surmounts the eagle at the top of the design. A small oval cartouche bearing the mintmaster's initial 'S' appears at the base of the composition. The legend 'LAND MVNZ S' is arranged vertically in the fields to the left and right of the central device, reading as a territorial mint designation. |

Christian Frederick Charles Alexander ruled Brandenburg-Ansbach from 1757 until his remarkable abdication in 1791, when he sold the entire margraviate to Prussia — the last Hohenzollern ruler to govern it as an independent territory. These small billon pieces circulated through the final decades of that autonomous existence, a principality already renting its own subjects as soldiers to the British during the American Revolutionary War.
