Additional information

Hildesheim's civic coinage of the 1670s emerged from a protracted jurisdictional struggle between the city council and the Prince-Bishopric — both claimed minting rights, and both exercised them simultaneously for stretches of this decade. The small billon issues like this one circulated locally while that authority dispute ground through imperial arbitration. KM#238 falls within a date range rather than a fixed year, which itself reflects the documentary gaps common to minor civic mints of the period.
