Obverse description A large ornate cursive royal cypher 'C', rendered in elaborate Baroque scroll-work, occupies the central field. The monogram is surmounted by a ducal crown with visible jewels and ermine lining, symbolising the reigning Duke Charles I of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. The coin's border is defined by a fine toothed or milled edge pattern. No legend appears on this face; the design relies entirely on the crowned monogram as the identifying device.
