Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King James II facing left, engraved in bold relief with finely detailed laurel wreath and flowing hair curling behind the neck. The effigy, attributed to the artistry of John Roettier, displays the king's strong profile with pronounced features characteristic of late Stuart portraiture. A circular Latin legend runs along the inner edge of the milled border, reading IACOBVS·II·DEI·GRATIA, identifying the monarch by divine right. The field exhibits a slightly convex surface with the toning typical of sterling silver Maundy-related coinage of this period.
