Obverse description Laureate and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, as designed by Mary Gillick for the first decimal portrait series. The Queen's hair is styled in a chignon beneath the laurel wreath, with a delicate drapery at the shoulder. The legend encircles the portrait along the outer border, separated by beading, in a refined classical manner characteristic of early Elizabethan coinage.
