Obverse description Draped bust of Queen Anne facing left, uncrowned, with elaborately coiffed hair swept up and secured, engraved by John Croker. The queen wears a brooch at the truncation and a draped mantle across the shoulder. The Latin legend ANNA·DEI·GRATIA· encircles the effigy, reading from lower left around the field.

Reverse description The large Arabic numeral '4', denoting the denomination in pence, occupies the central field beneath an ornate royal crown. The date is divided by the crown at the top of the design.
