Additional information

Nepal's 1955 coinage falls in the early years of Tribhuvan's restoration — he had reclaimed executive power from the Rana oligarchy in 1951 with Indian and popular support, ending over a century of hereditary prime ministerial control that had effectively sidelined the monarchy. The brass small-denomination issues of this period reflect a transitional monetary administration still finding its footing between traditional Nepalese coinage conventions and modernizing pressures.

Tribhuvan died in March 1955, making this one of the final issues struck under his name before Mahendra's accession.
