| Obverse description | Broadly square, irregularly shaped cast planchet with heavily textured, granular surface typical of primitive copper-iron alloy casting. The obverse field is essentially plain and featureless, displaying no formal design elements, legends, or devices, consistent with the crude utilitarian character of this type known as Lohiya or Black Paisa. The darkened, oxidized surface gives the piece its characteristic blackish appearance, from which the popular name derives. Edges are irregular and uneven, reflecting the hand-casting production method. |
