Obverse description Four bold Chinese characters arranged in a cruciform pattern around a central square perforation, reading clockwise from the top: 寛 (Kan), 通 (tsū), 永 (ei), and 寶 (hō), the latter rendered in an unbalanced or variant form distinctive of the Morioka mint. The characters are cast in high relief within a flat inner field, enclosed by a raised rim. The inscription reads 寛永通寶 (Kan'eitsūhō), identifying this as a four-mon denomination coin of the late Edo period.
