| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a shield of arms displayed within a beaded inner circle, the device rendered in low relief typical of late medieval hammered copper coinage. The heraldic shield bears the arms of the Gaveren family, with details partially obscured by die wear and surface corrosion consistent with the coin's age and copper fabric. A Gothic uncial legend surrounds the shield, reading + ADRIANVS DE GAVEREN DO, identifying the issuing lord Adrian of Gaveren. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, characteristic of hand-struck mites of this period. The overall die style is provincial and somewhat crude, reflecting the modest output of this small Meuse-valley lordship. |
