| Obverse description | Armored bust of King Gustav II Adolf facing right, depicted in three-quarter view wearing a cuirass and royal mantle, holding a scepter. The effigy is rendered in a bold relief characteristic of early seventeenth-century hammered coinage. The circular Latin legend surrounding the portrait reads GVSTAV : ADOLF · DG · SVEC : GOT : V : REX ·, identifying the king as Gustav Adolf, by the Grace of God King of Sweden, the Goths, and the Wends.
