Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborately interlaced crowned royal cipher of Christian V, composed of four intertwined Cs forming a symmetrical monogram surmounted by a large ornate royal crown. The cipher is rendered in fine relief with intricate ribbon-work typical of late 17th-century Danish coinage. A small rosette or ornament appears at the base of the design. The encircling Latin legend reads C V D. G · REX · DAN · NOR · VAN · GOT ·, identifying the king as Christian V by the Grace of God, King of Denmark, Norway, the Vends and Goths, divided at the top and bottom of the coin.
