Obverse description The city arms of Hamelin occupy the central field, depicting a fortified gate flanked by two towers, each surmounted by a small cross, with a large cartwheel emblem displayed prominently in the lower portion of the gate — the traditional civic symbol of Hamelin. The design is rendered in bold relief with strong architectural detail. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading clockwise from the upper right and separated from the inner design by a beaded border.
