Obverse description Central crowned royal cipher of Philip V, formed by the interlaced letters 'P' and 'V' beneath a royal crown, flanked by the mint mark 'M' and denomination numeral '4' in the field. The legend PUBLICÆ VTILIT · CONFLATA encircles the monogram along the periphery, indicating the coin was struck for public utility. The design is rendered in high relief with a milled border, characteristic of Spanish pattern coinage of the early eighteenth century.
