Obverse description Central field features a crowned castle of Castile rendered in high relief within a quatrefoil lobe formed by four interlocking circles, each lobe containing a small pellet or annulet in its field. The quatrefoil design is a characteristic motif of the early Segovia mill coinage. The circumferential legend reads + PHILIPPVS · II · DEI GRATIA, separated by pellet stops, running clockwise within a beaded border. The overall design reflects the Renaissance workshop style introduced at the Real Ingenio de Segovia under the roller-milling technology imported from Germany.
