Obverse description Central field features a Gothic castle with three towers rendered in fine architectural detail, set within a quatrefoil frame with curved lobes. The castle, emblematic of the Kingdom of Castile, displays elaborate crenellations and arched gateways typical of Gothic heraldic convention. The mint mark 'S' for Seville appears prominently below the castle within the lower lobe of the quatrefoil. A beaded inner border frames the central device, with the circumferential Latin legend PETRVS DEI GRACIA REX CASTELLE E LEGIONIS disposed around the outer field between inner and outer beaded borders. The flan is irregularly shaped, characteristic of hammered coinage of the period.
