Obverse description Draped bust of Queen Isabel II facing right, her hair elaborately dressed and drawn up with a diadem, rendered in low relief in the neoclassical style. The denomination '4 M.' appears in the field to either side of the bust, with the date '1855' in the exergue below. The circumferential legend reads 'ISABEL 2A. POR LA G. DE DIOS Y LA CONST.', abbreviated from the full constitutional title of the queen. The portrait is attributed to the engraver Mariano González de Sepúlveda Salazar and exhibits the characteristic restrained modelling typical of mid-nineteenth-century Spanish copper coinage.
