Obverse description Central field displays the quartered royal arms of Spain — comprising castles of Castile and lions of León, with the granada (pomegranate) of Granada in base — surmounted by an ornate crown. The shield is encircled by the circular Latin legend reading PHILIP·V·D·G·HISP·REX, with the denomination numeral 4 positioned to the right of the shield in the field. Floral rosettes serve as decorative separators within the legend. The entire design is enclosed by a milled border of fine radial denticles.
