Obverse description Central device comprises a castled tower with three turrets, each crowned, rendered in high relief within a multi-lobed quatrefoil cartouche. The mint mark 'S' for Segovia appears in the lower field beneath the cartouche. A beaded inner circle separates the central design from the surrounding circular legend, which reads PHILIPPVS D G OMNIVM, identifying Philip II as sovereign by divine grace. The entire composition is characteristic of the roller-milled copper coinage introduced at the Segovia mint in the late sixteenth century, with well-defined raised borders framing the obverse field.
