Obverse description Bare-headed portrait bust of King Moshoeshoe I facing right, with a short beard, rendered in high relief in a bold medallic style. The effigy occupies the central field, with the engraver's signature 'A. COLOMBO' inscribed beneath the truncation. The circular legend reads 'BOIPUSO LESOTHO INDEPENDENCE' along the upper arc, with 'MOSHOESHOE I' along the lower arc, flanked by two six-pointed stars.
