Obverse description Central device features a crowned rectangular heraldic shield bearing the arms of the Republic of Genoa, flanked on either side by rampant griffins serving as supporters. The entire composition rests upon an ornamental base with a lion's head motif prominently displayed below the shield. The surrounding field carries the Latin legend DUX · ET GUB · REIP · GENU ·, denoting the Doge and Governors of the Republic of Genoa.
