| Obverse description | Central field features the crowned lion of Hesse displayed within an ornate cartouche or shield, flanked by decorative foliate branches on either side. The initials 'H' and 'D' (for Hesse-Darmstadt) appear in the upper field to the left and right of the crown respectively. The overall design is rendered in a Baroque style consistent with mid-18th century German state coinage. The coin exhibits a beaded border encircling the entire design. |
