| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a large quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of the Bishopric of Bamberg and those of the Schönborn family, surmounted by a bishop's mitre and cross. The shield is flanked by elaborate foliate and scrollwork mantling. Mint initials G-N appear below the shield in the lower field. The circular Latin legend surrounding the design reads: 1698 LOTHAR.FRANC.D.G.A.&E.M.F.BAMB., with the date 1698 at the top, all within a finely milled outer border. |
