Additional information

Eberhard Louis came to power as Duke of Württemberg at age nine in 1693, with his duchy still recovering from the devastation of the Nine Years' War — French forces under Turenne had systematically burned large portions of the Swabian countryside in the previous decade. This issue spans his minority, during which regents administered fiscal policy and mint operations under considerable constraint. The Krefeld mint reforms of the late seventeenth century pushed many smaller German states toward debased billon and low-grade silver, and Württemberg was no exception.
