| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the imperial eagle of Aachen displayed with wings spread, rendered in a bold, somewhat crude style characteristic of late 18th-century German municipal coinage. The eagle faces to the left with outstretched wings showing hatched feather detail, and the date is split to either side of the lower body, reading '1798' in the field. No encircling legend appears on this face; the design fills the flan to the rim. |

| Reverse description | The reverse bears a four-line inscription in bold raised Roman capital letters occupying the central field: 'IIII' on the first line denoting the denomination, followed by 'REICHS' and 'STAT·ACH' on the subsequent lines, identifying the issuer as the Free Imperial City of Aachen (Reichsstadt Aachen). Below the lettering, two crossed palm or olive branches serve as a decorative device. The field is plain with no additional ornamentation, and the coin has a plain edge. |
