Obverse description Central field bears the Sharifian tughra of Sultan Moulay al-Hasan I rendered in raised Arabic calligraphy within a circular inner border. The Arabic inscription surrounds the central device and the Hijri date 1311 appears prominently at the base of the design in large numerals. The coin is struck within a milled border with a scalloped inner rim. The overall style reflects the traditional Moroccan mint engraving of the late 19th century.
